Between Fuengirola and Marbella, Mijas is a large municipality. You will first see the real village/old town of Mijas as you go from Malaga airport to Marbella, passing via Torremolinos and Benalmadena, above Fuengirola, locked in the hills with amazing sea views.
Mijas Pueblo, this is the original, yet extremely traditional Andalusian-style hamlet and administrative center of the entire municipality of Mijas, which stretches west to where Marbella and even Ojén begin. The white washed villages of Andalusia are popular with both visitors and locals. Mijas Pueblo is the historical heart of the municipality of Mijas, which is located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, only 30 kilometers from Málaga Airport, at the foothill of a lush mountain covered in pine trees that stretches all the way to the villages of Alhaurin El Grande and Alhaurin de la Torre on its back.
"Las Lagunas de Mijas" on the coast, directly adjacent to Fuengirola, is just a short drive down from the hamlet. Many people believe it is Fuengirola, but it is still Mijas, as evidenced by the Mijas Aqua Park (with amazing slides for kids and adults) on the seashore of the A7/N-340 coastal road. Las Lagunas is one of Mijas Costa's more contemporary sections, with large shopping centers (such as Miramar or Corte Ingles) as well as industrial sites for building materials and other necessities. Mijas also boasts a number of large cinemas that show the latest films in their original version.
