About Calahonda

Calahonda offers exactly the ideal blend of Britishness (and, more lately, other) and Spanishness for a potential homeowner looking for a property for sale on Calahonda and  the Costa del Sol, with a broad range of Residential homes that are fairly priced and close to Málaga airport. In fact, the Costa del Sol is not one of the world's most popular tourist and second-home locations for nothing, and Calahonda provides much of the same.

Calahonda is difficult to describe because it is located in Mijas Costa, midway down the coast of Málaga province, between Fuengirola and Marbella. The town area along the ocean is really rather tiny, whilst the urbanisations and private dwellings run for kilometers inland, through some of the region's gentlest rolling terrain. Calahonda's geographical location has aided in the development of an unique expat population, with residents hailing from the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Nordic nations, and significant areas of South America, but it is the British who have left the most noticeable cultural imprint.

Calahonda could be forgiven for containing a large number of British and Irish bars, British supermarkets, and seemingly every kind of British (or at least English-speaking) business imaginable, including dentists, vets, roofers, cable guys, and hairdressers, for those looking to take their first tentative steps in another country. After all, not every prospective purchaser or expat is ready to try all of the world's cultures, and languages. Often, all they want is somewhere warm, accessible, and simple to relocate to, which Calahonda offers in spades.

Calahonda is a great place for young families, although the beaches may get crowded during the school summer vacations, so get up early if you want to spend the day soaking up some rays. There are many of reasonably priced restaurants along the shore that serve anything from fresh fish and shellfish to more traditional burgers, pizzas, and pasta meals. The few pubs along the promenade are warm and inviting, with a strong European flavor.
